What's your money story?

Todays Naked Doctor Show Notes:

Follow the money $$$$$

Why do we talk about money on the show?  Because money is one of the biggest stressors for American adults.

Money continues to be the leading cause of stress for Americans, a new survey from the American Psychological Association poll found.
Financial worries served as a significant source of stress for 64 percent of adults in 2014, ranking higher than three other major sources of stresswork (60 percent), family responsibilities (47 percent), and health concerns (46 percent).  Nearly three out of four adults reported feeling stressed about money at least some of the time, and about one in four adults said they experienced extreme stress over money during the past month, according to the report.
Money can be a source of “security”.  So how to do we change our relationship with money so that it is not a source of “insecurity” or stress?

First you have to identify your “money story”.  It’s important to identify your existing relationship with money—what you are saying about money, how you feel about it, what you believe about it, and how you use it.

We all think that circumstances cause us to think a certain way — such as “the economy is bad” or that a person or situation is the problem.  Your thoughts create your reality.

When we consider “stress” the one true way to change our stress is to change our “perception” of our circumstances.  The truth is in life you have the ability to choose how we think about a circumstance.  You have the power to decide how you think about any situation in your life.

Your thoughts about a situation drive your feelings/emotions that in turn drive your behaviors and actions in the world, which lead to the results you have right now in your life.

To establish your money story lets explore a few questions:
1. What was your parent’s relationship to money?  What did they say or how did they respond when it came to money?   What memories do you have of your parents discussing money?
2.  Was money perceived to be scarce when you were a child?
3. What did the people in your life say about money?  “Money is the root of all evil? rich people are snooty?  Really rich people got that way by taking it from others?  Being poor is necessary to be Godly?......”
4.  When was your first money memory?  Receiving?  Giving? Allowance?
5. Did your family experience a defining moment around money?  A defining moment shapes our beliefs – we take away from that experience a meaning.  If your family experienced a catalytic event – one that was significant such as losing family wealth, losing a job, living through the Depression, or a divorce that caused financial duress, this would shape your beliefs about money.

6. Did your family experience sudden wealth or financial success?

7. Do you have any unhappy memories around money from your childhood until now?

8. What emotions did your family associate with money?

9. How would you define the status of your family growing up? Were they considered rich, poor or middle class?

Now write one paragraph…”My current relationship with money is….”

Wealth is a state of mind.  It’s all a perception.

We may have money in the bank or in the stock market, but we always have the Universal thought “I don’t have enough.”

We tend to give money a lot of power and even give our personal power away to money.  We define our success by how much money we make or don’t make.

In our society we have a “lack” mentality.  We never have enough.

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR MONEY STORY

Take action to create change.  Set an intention to focus on learning as much as possible about money.

I recommend that you get clear about the story you are telling yourself and others about money. Get conscious of your thoughts, beliefs and fears around money and what you have been carrying around since childhood.  Decide to change the story if it’s not empowering you.

What does it take to create a new money story that serves your life and enables you to take your power back, change your perception and reduce your stress?

Secrets to changing your money story.
1. Ask questions?  Consider your beliefs about money and ask, “is this really true?”  Is money really the root of all evil or is it “the love of money” that is the root of all evil?  Is money really scarce or are all your needs met?
2. Practice gratitude.  Be thankful for the abundance that you have currently.  Focus on the abundance that you have.
3. Give money away!  If you want to be happy make someone else happy.  If you want love give love away.  If you want more money give money to someone.  The energy of abundance, gratitude and giving will bring more money into your life.
4. Be aware that money is just an exchange of energy.  The paper that you hold that you call a 20 dollar bill is just a piece of paper.
5.  Find ways to increase your worth in the world.  Contribute any way that you can.  When you love what you do the money will come.   When you serve with a glad heart you will have abundance.
6. Don’t take life too seriously.  “It’s only money!” right?
7. Get clear on what you want… find your passion in the life that is the source of money for you and give it 100%.  Others will flock to the energy of your passion and reward you with abundant energy.
8. Realize that the earth is abundant.  We have enough food, resources and money for everyone on the planet.  If you think about scarcity you will push money away.
9. You don't get what you want- You get what you believe.  Change your belief system about money and you will have great wealth.
10. Ask questions…. Did I say that already… ask questions to learn ways to increase your worth to the world.  Learn new skills.  Share those skills with the world.

Change your perception!  Change your life!  Love the life your live!

Love and blessing to you.
